Extra Workshops / Barbara’s Bits!

 PEDAS Sunday info:

Sunday 6th June – Clay Making Workshop with Ian Harris

We had a lovely afternoon making pots with Ian Harris on Sunday 6th June.  As soon as he has fired the pots we made he will get them to me so please let me have your phone numbers or email addresses so that I can contact you.

Sunday 1st August – Seascapes and skies with Heather Jolliffe

Heather is a professional artist and tutor.  She will do a demonstration and workshop of how she tackles seascapes and skies with watercolour pencils.  She asks that you bring your watercolour pencils, watercolour paper (nott or medium textured) and brushes (round size about 8 or anything with a good point and a square flat ½ inch).  If you have any reference material you want to use please bring it along although Heather will have loads with her.

Sunday 5th September – ‘Art in Nature’ with Julie Herring

Julie says that this will be a drawing exercise that observes natural form and asks that you bring sketchbooks and pencils (2B) or loose paper.  Also bring something of your choice that you have collected from nature – shells, leaves, pine cone, seed pods, fruit, vegetables, flowers, etc – anything that inspires you to draw!  Keep it simple but consider the shape and form.  Julie will also bring a few natural items in case you forget!

This will be an opportunity to spend time observing the subject, understanding it and then drawing from life.  You may choose to paint afterwards but it is primarily a drawing activity to observe form.

This exercise can also be adapted to drawing a subject in the foreground of a landscape (or interior scene etc) and to consider perspective, so this can be discussed.  If you have any of your own work that you want to consider for this then bring it along too.

Extra Workshops:

Saturday 18th September – Watercolour Workshop with Jake Winkle

Some of you may remember Jake from a previous Sunday session.  We felt that 2 hours just wasn’t enough so Jake has agreed to come back for the whole day from 10 am to 4 pm.  Jake is a professional artist selling his paintings both here and abroad.  If you go to Utube and key in ‘Watercolour Dark to Light with Jake Winkle’ or simply ‘Jake Winkle’ you will see the sort of work he does.  He has also written several articles in The Artist over the past few years.

Jake will bring all references with him but would you bring at least 3 sheets of Arches Rough 140 lb water colour paper or similar about 15” x 11” or 16” x 12”.  You may wish to stretch them beforehand.  Also bring all your water colours and brushes and some old newspaper for your work area.

The fee for the day is £15 for members and £20 for non-members to include teas and coffee but not your lunch.  Let me have your names and cheques payable to PEDAS as soon as you can.  I have an upper limit of numbers for this workshop so I’m afraid it will have to be first-come first-served.  I shall hold the list open for members only until the end of August then open it to non-members.

Saturday 13th November – Feltmaking Workshop with Clare Hadley

This is advance notice as this does not appear in your pink programme but due to popular demand we are putting on this extra Saturday Workshop this year.  Clare has kindly volunteered her services to teach 3D feltmaking techniques – come and make a funky beret, bag or vessel (or you can stick with 2D pieces if you prefer).  As usual the fee will be £15 for members and £20 for non-members to include teas and coffee – there will also be an extra charge of £7 for materials which Clare will bring with her.  Please bring your own lunch.  It will be held from 10 am to 4.30 pm at Holy Angels Church Hall.  Let me have your names and cheques payable to PEDAS as soon as you can.

Exhibition:

‘Sculpture in the Garden’ – 31st July to 2nd August

I will be holding my annual Sculpture Exhibition in my garden for the Lewis-Manning Hospice Appeal for a new 12-bed unit.  As usual, there will be plants for sale, a raffle and cream teas etc.  Admission is free with donations to Lewis-Manning Hospice.

We have over 20 well-known Dorset sculptors exhibiting including Sarah Moore, Ian Harris, Fay Anderson, Pat Burnham, Judy Boot-Bakker, Kitty Hartnell, David Metcalff and many more.  You are all invited so please come along and tell all your friends.  I look forward to seeing you.

Best wishes
