JOHN BRITTON
I work in wide range of media and at different scales, often incorporating various forms of texture to enhance the visual experience. I am known for my distinctive use of colour with a recognisable style, despite the range of subjects I depict. I am striving to make my work more abstract, but aim to ensure that it is meaningful and that the viewer can relate the picture to its title.

I have been inspired by apparently disparate artists such as JMW Turner, Ben Nicholson, Howard Hodgkin and Nicholas de Stael. Artistic teaching under the umbrella of the former Bournemouth Arts Institute plus the guidance of the Dorset artists Dr Brian Graham, Peter Joyce and Robert Woolner have all helped me greatly to develop my own artistic ability and style.

DAWN GOODSON
Dawn took Intermediate National Diploma of Design at Lowestoft School of Art and was accepted at Reading University, and Bath Academy of Art. She went to Bath, studying with Peter Lanyon, Ken Armitage, James Towler, Andrew Wilson and others.

Dawn taught Art to "A" Level in state and private schools and later in Adult Education Centers. She married an Army Officer and adopted twin daughters and was posted to Pakistan; Australia; Germany and Belgium. Wherever she went she painted and where possible did pottery and gave classes.

Dawn describes herself as a "Jack of All Trades" having taught and painted in oils, watercolors and acrylics, silk screen, lithography, scraper board, lino-cutting, ceramics, pottery and sculpture. Also calligraphy and Chinese painting. She  prefers to paint from life, be it figures, landscape or seascape, and prefers to stand at an easel to work.

PETER GREENWOOD
Since childhood I've enjoyed drawing and painting.
I moved to Dorset several years ago and my change in career has given me the time to focus on my art work.

I initially began painting using watercolour but now work mainly in mixed-media, using acrylic paints, inks and collage.

I usually base my paintings on photographs taken through the years and am inspired by the effects of light on townscapes, markets and boats. Where possible I include impressions of the human form both to enhance the perspective and to bring life to the painting.

JACQUI GUSH
Since taking A level Art at school I have endeavoured to keep up my practice by attending regular and frequent art courses and workshops. At one of these in Poole I was encouraged to join PEDAS in 2015.
I am fairly flexible in my choice of subjects and media and will select the medium to suit the composition. I am always ready to learn new techniques and materials. To this end, I continue to attend tutored courses and sessions both inside and outside of PEDAS.
Loving it!
Currently, I am Trustee & Chair of PEDAS, and loving it!

DICK HEWITSON
My paintings often arise from interpretation of landscape. Some of them are recognisably 'landscapes', others are rather less figurative, some are abstract. Living in Dorset for over 40 years, many of my figurative works are interpretations of Dorset landscapes.

Currently I am mainly painting in oils on canvas, board or wood. I often use drawings to work out the composition. I am increasingly researching new paintings by drawing in the field, with the initial sketch making a major contribution to the final painting.

My website has more information, including exhibitions.

PAM PHILIP
I have enjoyed drawing and painting all my life, but it was only after I retired that I was able to really indulge my passion for art.
Primarily a plein-air artist, my main inspiration is drawn from the countryside around my home in Dorset. The Jurassic Coast is a popular destination for me, as well as the woodlands and farmlands near my home. I also travel abroad to paint, and have enjoyed holidays for the past ten years in India. As my childhood was spent in India, I am very comfortable setting up my easel and painting in the most glorious surroundings. Last year I spent three months in Australia and was inspired by the strong light and the vibrant colours of the landscape.
I paint in most media including oils, pastels, watercolour, pen & wash. I am happy to do commissions. See website: www.pamphilip.co.uk

CAROLINE ROBERTSON
I am fortunate to have retired, and have the time to return to my favourite hobby art, whilst we still had the benefit of Adult Education. I studied for a NCFE Certificate in Creative Craft and City & Guilds Level 2 in Design and Craft : Mixed Media.

Recently my art work has progressed into a more contemporary style. I enjoy painting in this manner so that the person viewing the painting can comprehend what I am reflecting in my picture but it poses questions.

MARISA ROBERTSON
Marisa was born in Madrid and raised in the Caribbean.  After a busy married life both here and abroad, she attended evening classes, and studied and achieved A level Art. She has been a member of PEDAS for some 30 plus years during which time she has taken part in most of PEDAS' exhibitions as well as the open exhibitions organised by the society. She also studied Art under John Bowen. Though she likes experimentation with various media, she favours Surrealist acrylics and delicate pastels of Poole and other places visited during her travels.

VAL TAYLOR
I paint mostly in oils but also love drawing directly in ink with watercolour washes. I moved to Dorset in 2001 since when my subjects have been primarily sea- and landscapes mainly derived from the local area.

I have exhibited in group exhibitions with Dorset Art Weeks since 2002. I held a solo exhibition at Mill Lane Gallery, Wimborne in 2006 and was one of Three Women Artists in the exhibition of that name at the Gallery Upstairs in Upton Country Park in 2012.

I became a member of PEDAS in 2009, since when I have taken part in all their exhibitions as well as the open exhibitions organised by the society.

PENNY WILTON
Born in Swindon, in 1952 I have always loved drawing and painting. When I moved to Dorset in the 60s, I loved to take my sketchbook out around the Purbecks and by the sea. I took various courses to develop my skills and became qualified in many subjects - illustration and fine art then onto Southampton for a Fine Arts degree course.

I love painting many subjects, in various mediums. My experience has developed over the years and I have been a tutor in Art for over 25 years. I also demonstrate for Art groups in the South of England and am a regular tutor on Cunard cruises.
Sunseeker and FJB hotels have many of my paintings; large canvases or smaller paintings are no problem. I often meet interior designers to discuss their paintings and will produce a small image to see ideas of colour and composition.

Always influenced by my surroundings, I work from sketches to develop ideas from seascapes or figurative work for my large colourful paintings or also producing some very interesting pieces with texture or an Abstract.

My paintings are collected worldwide; I regularly exhibit in  Dorset and have had work in the RI and at Bath as well as many exhibitions locally with PEDAS and Bournemouth Arts Club. www.pennywilton.co.uk
