If you like needlework you will love the exhibition currently on show at The Gallery Upstairs until 13th September. It is a sumptuous display of textile art by Dorset members of West Country Embroiderers in an exhibition called ‘A Spectrum of Stitch’. Christchurch, Poole, Purbeck, Sherborne, Wareham and Wimborne groups are represented. Each group gets together on a regular basis to enjoy learning and experimenting with hand and machine embroidery, fibres and mixed media. The original aim was to encourage the skill of embroidery at all levels and ability, but they have since moved on and now, as demonstrated in this fabulous exhibition, like to encompass all manner of textiles and needlecrafts. Some interesting pieces: And the exhibition that follows this promises to be another feast for the eyes. ‘Optic Nerve’, which runs from 17th – 27th September, showcases the paintings of four contrasting artists: Rob Adams, Pam Marshall, Sally Holland, and Heather MacGregor. Here's a taster: The Gallery Upstairs is run by members of Poole & East Dorset Art Society (PEDAS). It is situated above the Tea Rooms in Upton Country Park in 160 acres of parkland, woodland, shoreline, and gardens. So come and enjoy a visit to an art gallery followed by an afternoon in a country park. Thanks to everyone who took part in our recent Art Pro Loco Event at Upton Country Park, both those who entered work and those who came along to vote. Great fun was had by all!
