Only a few days to go until the Upton House Food & Drink Festival starts! There'll be food, drinks, arts and crafts and live music in the park. Set up starts on the front lawn from Wednesday for the opening on Friday. Please note that the Upton Bypass slipway from the A350 will be closed from 9.30am on Friday 13 August until 7am on Monday 16th August. The weather is looking good and with another reason to visit the park we trust that visitors enjoy all that the award winning park has to offer. The country park will be fully open for you to enjoy. You can explore the beautiful gardens and woodland and visit the Tea Rooms, Splash Fountain and Spurrier's Play Park. And of course you must visit The Gallery Upstairs, situated above the tea rooms and managed by Poole & East Dorset Art Society (PEDAS) The Gallery Upstairs is currently showing paintings and drawings by members of 'Art on the Heath' based at Canford Heath, until 16th August. Following that, from 19th - 23rd August: 'Diversity of Colour', an exhibition of abstract oil paintings in aid of 'Diverse Abilities'. We particularly look forward to a special event for the Bank Holiday: ART PRO LOCO at UPTON COUNTRY PARK - PAINT, SHOW, WIN! Art Pro Loco - An exciting opportunity to paint or draw at Upton Country Park, during the August Bank Holiday Weekend, and have your artwork displayed in an evolving exhibition in The Gallery Upstairs - Poole and East Dorset Art Society invite all ages and abilities to come and make a piece of art in a day. This is a community event run by PEDAS (Poole and East Dorset Art Society). Pro Loco means ‘of the place’ and the idea is to visit a place and make a piece of art based on the location. How it works: Come any day from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th August. First, register with us at the Gallery between 10.30 am and 4 pm, work on your painting or drawing out in the park and bring it back to the Gallery when it’s ready. The Gallery will be open to display your work as soon as the first piece comes in. There will be an entry fee of £2 per work, (£1 for children under 5). You will receive a date stamp and an entry number. No matter whether you are an aspiring artist, child or professional, all the work that has been submitted will be exhibited in the Gallery Upstairs at Upton Country Park. For display in the Gallery, the work can be mounted, framed or just on reasonable quality paper. Your artwork may be offered for sale, if you wish, with no gallery commission. On Sunday come and visit the exhibition and vote for your favourite. There are 3 categories of winners and prizes will be awarded at 3pm on Monday 30th August. This opportunity is open to all, including children, so please tell your friends about this super enjoyable event. Full details are available at www.thegalleryupstairs.co.uk under News and Events |
