Inside Out at The Gallery Upstairs

Escape the grey of winter days and take a trip to the Gallery Upstairs  where a colourful new art exhibition is currently showing in the freshly spruced up gallery.                
Enjoy  new and original works by the 'Inside Out Painters' who are: Chris Clark, Gill Faraway, Sarah Kelly & Iris McCrow with guest artists David Herrington and Elizabeth Mitchener (printermaker). The exhibition finishes 15 February 2022 

​Chris Clark paints mainly in acrylic but also mixed media, watercolour and oils. She enjoys both plein air painting and studio work.

Gill Faraway is particularly interested in conveying atmosphere and a feeling for colour in her work and  finds watercolour is ideal for depicting our English climate and changing seasons.  She has recently enjoyed painting with acrylic paint and palette knife,  giving a free and impressionistic feel to her work.

"Sarah Kelly says: "being in my sea kayak out along our incredible coastline as well as further west and abroad, has given me much of my inspiration for painting and helped me to be able to 'read' the water and revel in the sky. Getting back into sailing recently has given me a new viewpoint and a greater understanding of the sea, and  a chance to develop my artwork further".

Iris McCrow Growing up in this area gave Iris lots of opportunity to enjoy the outdoors, something she continues to do. Painting en plein air is  her first love, and reflected in the work on show.

David Herrington usually works with watercolour and Acrylics depending on the subject and mood he is wanting to capture.  His art continues to evolve in different directions and he is always experimenting with new ideas and subjects to create original and exciting artwork.

Elizabeth Mitchener is a printmaker creating detailed carefully designed images of the natural world which reward close perusal.

The Gallery Upstairs is run by PEDAS (Poole & East Dorset Art Society)

6 February – Joan Scott, Workshop in Collage/Mixed Media 
Please bring sketches (or photograph if sketches aren’t your thing) for inspiration to work from.
 
Items useful for collage/mixed media (Not all are necessary and most can be found at home)

• Support to work on - watercolour paper (140lbs min) or pieces of mountboard (A5/A4/A3 size approx) - must be sufficiently robust to take PVA glue and wet watercolour/acrylic ink.  Bear in mind that the base colour will probably show through. 
• watercolour paints (and brushes)
• and/or acrylic (white may be useful)
• and/or white gouache
• PVA glue, glue brush or applicator, and possibly a small pot for glue
• Scissors/craft knife
• Pot for holding water
•  (Scrap) paper; a selection from the following:

newspapers, scraps of watercolour paper/mountboard, wallpaper, paper/wallpaper painted with acrylic paint*, corrugated cardboard, old unwanted paintings on paper, envelopes, junk mail, etc.

• An apron may be a good idea for the messy person!

 
Items useful but not essential:

• Diffuser (I may have some for £2.75)
• Acrylic Inks (FW, Magic Color or Liquitex Ink)
• Eggshells(baked)/sand/texture paste
• Oil pastels
• Water soluble crayons
• Small refillable spray bottle for water (if not available from home, small spray bottles are sold on the holiday supply shelves at Superdrug or Boots

*It would be useful to prepare some paper for collage beforehand – paint with acrylic paint which can be quite roughly done.
