ART IN POOLE PARK
Come and take part this weekend!

Art Pro Loco at Poole Park
Poole Park Artists and Makers Studio
From Friday 28th July through the weekend,
to Monday 31st July for voting and prizegiving

How it works

‘Pro Loco’ means of the place, and you are invited to come along on either the Friday, Saturday or Sunday to draw or paint around Poole Park. You are asked to complete your picture within the same day.
Your work will be exhibited in the Poole Park Artists and Makers Studio, in the middle of the park.
You are asked to register with one of the stewards when you arrive, (by the Artists and Makers Studio). The entry fee is £2.50, cash please, no wifi. (£1.50 for children under 16). You will receive a date stamp and an entry number.
Please bring materials and equipment of your own choice. Paper should be of a decent quality, so it can be exhibited on a wall. Some materials will be available.
On completion, please return your work to the stewards. If you wish to mount your work, please do this before you hand it in.
Your work will be displayed in the Artists and Makers Studio for viewing.
On Monday 31st, after all work has been submitted, visitors are invited to come and choose their favourite piece of work, in 3 age categories: a) Children up to 5, b) children 5-15, c) everyone over 15 years.
Voting slips and a posting box will be available. The 3 winners will be announced at 3pm on Monday by our Artist Patron, Helen Talbot.
Please make an arrangement to collect your work, if required, by the end of the day.
This opportunity is open to everyone, regardless of age or ability, so come along and tell all your friends.

We're painting Skies

'Skies'
Cloud watching can lead to some beautiful images!
In preparation for the August session on Skies you may like to spend a short time Sky Gazing, so that you can record an interesting sky. Or you may prefer to bring a photo which you have taken or a sketch or picture you have made previously or collected on this subject.

Materials you will need to bring are:-
Acrylic paints, oil pastels, mixed media paper/and or heavy watercolour paper A3/A4, suitable brushes (at least one hog hair brush) masking tape, scissors, kitchen roll or rag, and a spray bottle for water - a water jar and a table covering.

EQUILIBRIUM at the GALLERY UPSTAIRS

An exciting exhibition currently showing at Gallery Upstairs, with lots of original and interesting work, most for sale.

Enter the gallery and scan the room. It doesn’t matter how cleverly and convincingly a painting has been rendered - the composition must feel ‘right’. 'Equilibrium' celebrates the importance of composition.

Members of Poole & East Dorset Art Society (PEDAS) have created artworks for ‘Equilibrium’ a project set by the group’s new Artist Patron, Helen Talbot.

Helen says: “Composition refers to the arrangement of shapes, colours, and tones within a specified area to create balance within the design. In a painting or drawing the ability to recognize a good composition is often an instinctive reaction to whether it looks right or wrong. Members have been encouraged to use the ‘rule of thirds’”.

Helen herself has a number of paintings and travel sketchbooks. Well worth a browse.
Come along and see what you think. This is the last weekend. 'Equilibrium' finishes 4 pm on Monday.

Exhibition at The Gallery Upstairs

PAM MARSHALL and SARAH MCDONALD.

A vibrant exhibition of striking paintings by two distinctly different Dorset artists.

Sarah McDonald is known for her large and lively acrylic abstracts and collages, while Pamela Marshall’s paintings are representational, full of light and colour and often painted en plein air. Below, taster of each:

All work shown is for sale, including a selection of browser pieces and greetings cards, so there’s something for every pocket.

'ART OF POETRY' is showing now at the Gallery Upstairs, open daily until 3 April

Escape into Poetry and Painting at the Gallery Upstairs - in a truly engrossing exhibition of artworks created in response to poetry written by Members of Poole Poetry Collective
With ceramics by Joanna Wakefield.

POOLE POETRY COLLECTIVE is a Dorset based grass-roots poetry group (Established 2009), a community of writers and readers of poetry. They meet together regularly to discuss established poets, poetry forms, new poetry and to support each other in creating, publishing and performing their own work.

After successfully responding to an invitation to collaborate with photographers and write poetry in response to work in the photography exhibition Neat Image in 2022, members had the idea to reverse the process and invite artists to make work in response to fifty original poems created by the group. They are also fortunate to have a ceramic artist amongst their members and are pleased to include her work in the show.

Exhibition finishes 3rd April.

PEDAS ART TOUR
Antwerp, Ghent and Brussels
Wednesday 11 to Sunday 15 October 2023

We are excited to announce that our planned ART TRIP will go ahead and our transport and accommodation is booked via Angela Holidays. We are a group of 23 staying at the IBIS HOTEL, Antwerp City Centre. Should anyone else wish to join us there are still twin/double rooms available (no singles) and the cost is £500 which includes transport from Poole/Bournemouth direct to Antwerp with Bed and Breakfast Accommodation. Two day trips to Ghent and Brussels with a full itinerary of places to visit in both cities.

'ART INTO FOOD'
A big thank you to all the amazing artists who donated paintings. We were overwhelmed by everyone's generosity and can confirm that in excess of £1,400 was raised at the 'Art into food' Auction at The Dolphin Shopping Centre in aid of Poole Waste Not Want Not.
Also thank you to all the helpers that made this event possible and finally to everyone who came and supported us.

PEDAS also manages the delightful Gallery Upstairs,
located above the tea rooms in Upton Country Park.
It hosts a wide variety of exhibitions by groups and individuals.

'Art into Food'
Saturday 5th November

Give original artwork this Christmas - and help feed needy families!
It's all happening this Saturday morning at Gather in Dolphin Shopping Centre.
We're inviting artists to donate their work for auction, to raise money for ‘Poole Waste Not Want Not’, a food bank in Poole High Street.
Please come and support us, join in the fun – Barry and John are Auctioneers!
Place a bid or two!
Variety of artworks - some by leading local artists.
Hand-in donated artwork from 9 am; auction starts at 11 am.

New Lighting at The Gallery Upstairs

In a bid to reduce our organisation’s carbon footprint The Gallery Upstairs has replaced 11 floodlights that used florescent tubes with the equivalent number of LED floodlights (produced by "Illuma"). Our project has been part funded by Low Carbon Dorset as part of the European Regional Development Fund and will save around 0.7 tonnes of CO2 each year.
